Relevant Project Experience

Poole Harbour Lifting Bridge - KGAL
Structural development of the operating equipment for a vehicle lifting bridge proposal for the Borough of Poole.  The drive equipment was oil hydraulic based.

Peel Harbour Swing Bridge - KGAL
Structural development, operating equipment and bridge structure detailed strength calculations for a swing bridge at Peel Harbour, Isle of Man.
The drive equipment was oil hydraulic based.

Dutch River Swing Bridge - KGAL
Retained by Jacobs Babtie to carry out CAT III checking on the Dutch River Swing Bridge.

Iraq Lifting Bridge - KGAL
Retained by Mabey Johnson to design a winch operating system for a lifting bridge complete with all necessary drives, limit switches, buffers and controls.

Middle East Bridge - KGAL
Following "BS 5400 Part 2 steel, concrete and composite bridge (specification for loads)", to undertake the outline concept structural design for a long span swing rail bridge for Middle East. Work involved load case definition, concept structural design and calculations.

Exeter Bridge - KGAL
Calculation of the operational torque requirements for the swing bridge and checking of the pedestrian bridge structural strength.

Swansea Waterfront Retractable Bridge - KGAL
Structural development, bridge structure and detailed strength calculations for a retractable bridge at the Swansea Waterfront.

Rodd's Canal Lifting Bridge - KGAL
Calculations for the oil hydraulic operating system for a lifting bridge in Bude, Cornwall

Tianjin Lifting Bridge CAT 3 Check - KGAL
The provision of category three check on mechanical systems for Tianjin Bridge.  The bridge is for a 60 metre clear span in China.  Each bridge section is 1500 tonne in weight.

Derby Swing Bridge CAT 3 Check - KGAL
The provision of a Category three check on the design of a pedestrian swing bridge to be installed in Derby.

Milford Haven Tilting Gate - KGAL
Retained by Hyder Consulting Limited to undertake structural analysis of a semi-buoyant tilting gate.  Work involved the development of loading criteria, foundation calculations and a finite element study on the structural performance of the gate and its connections. Development of a special bearing to support the gate whilst not allowing structural forces to be transmitted.

Blackwater Dam Intake Gate - KGAL
Retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Limited to undertake a structural survey of a hydroelectric intake gate.  Work involved the gate structural calculations based on surveyed data.  The study helped to assess the gate structure's residual lifetime.

Blackwater Intake Canal Cofferdam - KGAL
Retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Limited to undertake the structural calculations for the design of a new two-piece cofferdam to isolate both the canal and intake.

Kilmorack Radial Gate - KGAL
Retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Limited to undertake a finite element analysis of a radial gate structure.  The work involved the substitution of surveyed material thicknesses in order to determine the residual life of the structure.

Leigh Barrier Radial Gate - KGAL
Retained by Environment Agency through Babtie, Brown & Root to undertake an analysis for the whole structure using finite element analysis. The work involved the structural analysis of the existing centre gate and north and south gates respectively. Based on the analyses, a gate strengthening proposal was proposed and analysed using FEA.
A set of manual calculation was also carried out to determine the strength of the gate lifting system, hinge bearings and all structural members.

Bonnington Surge Tank Gates - KGAL
Retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Limited to undertake a structural analysis for two gates.

Stonebyres Tilting Weir Gate - KGAL
Retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Limited to undertake a structural analysis and FEA for the tilting weir gate, counterbalance and adjustable pulley wheel system.

Al Khiran Sector Gate and Flap Gate - KGAL
Undertake a structural analysis and FEA for both sector gate and flap gate.

Swansea Sector Gate - KGAL
Undertake a structural analysis and FEA for the sector gate.

BCC Entrance lock and Junction Lock - KGAL
Undertake the structural analysis and FEA for both mitre gates.
