Wheel Gates
Principally used as a means of flood control in both river and tidal structures, also used on hydro-electric schemes as intake and draft tube gates. Caterpillar gates and "Stoney" gates are others of this type using rollers instead of fixed wheels.
  • Advantages
    • Lower lifting loads due to less friction.
    • Can be lifted under unbalanced head.
  • Disadvantages
    • More complex than a simple slide gate.
