Trashracks & Screens

Most Hydro projects and Pumping stations use Trashracks or screens of some form to remove debris from the waterway to protect the turbines and pumps.
Fixed types should include cleaning facilities.
Removeable types can be cleaned after removal.

Advantages

  • Stops the passage of debris downstream and causing damage to equipment.

Disadvantages

  • Need cleaning periodically depending upon the quantity of trash.
  • Vibration due to vortex shedding needs to be taken into account.
  • Head loss across the screen.
