Specifications for the balance of plant included the 220 tonne overhead crane, ventilation system, lighting and small power, oil separator system, tunnel steel lining and tunnel dewatering system.
Liaising with Civil designers and the Client, design reviews with Local Planning Authorities and Fire Authorities for Building Warrants.
Selection of subcontractors, review of designs and co-ordination of works. Various commissioning activities for impounding reservoir and watering up tunnels prior to unit rotation and testing, including integration of all balance of plant equipment with main unit and station control systems.

Site Manager Rannoch PS (3 x 15 MW Francis) responsible for turnkey refurbishment, replanting complete units, replacement of draft tubes, spiral casings, main inlet valve’s, generator stators, all control and auxiliary systems including penstock guard and isolation valves. Repacking sliding joints for bolted connections on surface penstock. Responsible for design of temporary systems to replace spiral casings, setting up sub-contracts for civil and building works, finishing’s, all EHS and contract matters. Commissioning and training co-ordination and leading commissioning of units. Nominated Supervisor under Clients safe system of work for isolations and permits for work.

Dinorwig PS (6 x 300 MW Pump turbines) underground power station with single penstock. Developing with designers, methods for changing MIV trunnion bearings while penstock remains pressurised. Developing and writing method statements and risk assessments for changing trunnion bearings.
Cruachan Power Station, Scotland - Kvaerner Boving Ltd
Cruachan PS (4 x 100 MW Pump turbines underground). Responsible for co-ordination of design work and for site work on refurbishment in stages, of two units. Complete refurbishment, replacement guide vanes, modified bearings, component machining both on and off site. Governor replacement with modern digital type, upgrading of oil system and associated re-commissioning.
Mrica Dam and Power Station, Indonesia - Boving and Co Ltd
Mrica PS (3 x 60 MW Francis) responsible for local manufacture, complete installation and commissioning turbines and associated auxiliaries. Site fabrication of 2500 tonnes of steel tunnel lining, including bifurcations, full installation of hydraulic diversion gates, spillway radial gates, dam bonneted outlets including all control systems and various small gates.
Roseires Dam and Power Station, Sudan - Boving and Co Ltd
Roseires PS (4 x 44 MW Kaplan and 3 x 30 MW Kaplan) responsible for complete installation and commissioning of two Kaplan Units. Site build of three large spiral casings including pressure testing and site machining for both tope and bottom covers. Site-build of two complete units (5 & 6) including all associated auxiliaries and governor systems. Full commissioning of two units, co-ordination of build and commissioning with generator supplier, RE, Client and Civil contractor. Recruiting and training local workforce.
