Sluice Gate, Mardyke Sluice

Mardyke Sluice

Mardyke sluice is the site of a flood defence sluice gate and mitre gate. This is owned and operated by the Environment Agency and forms part of the Thames Tidal defences.

In 2004, the Environment Agency appointed Halcrow to study the site and determine its condition. Kenneth Grubb Associates Ltd undertook this assignment and their report, which was submitted in 2004, highlighted a number of issues including the need to replace the mitre gates.

The report's conclusions were accepted and in 2005 KGAL's scope was extended to include the design and management of the necessary remedial works for the site. KGAL provided an outline design and managed the letting of a contract for the manufacture of a replacement set of sluice gates.
