Sector Gates, Portishead

KGAL were retained by ARUP to design and specify the mechanical and electrical elements of the proposed new marina lock at Portishead near Bristol.

The design consisted of a pair of outer Sector Gates, (4.8m radius and 13.3m high) and a pair of inner Sector Gates (4.8m radius and 7.6m high), both fitted with pedestrian access walkways.

KGAL prepared a full manufacturing documentation set for the gates and stoplogs including all necessary drawings and specifications. In addition, specifications were prepared detailing the requirements for the ancillary   operating equipment (e.g hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic powerpacks, cabling, control panels, control sensors etc).

The main site contractor, Edmund Nuttall, sub-contracted the gate manufacture to Fairport Engineering.

The gates and control systems were installed and handed over to the client, Crest Nicholson Marinas, during the Summer / Autumn of 2001.
