Flood Defence Gates

This type of gate is used mainly where traffic access is required through a flood defence wall. The normal solution would be a side hinged gate which is manually operated, other mechanically operated types have been designed, such as horizontally sliding and vertically rising.

  • Advantages
    • Normally manual operation - no power required.
    • Simple Civil works.
  • Disadvantages
    • Obviously can only be operated with no water load
    • Preferred sealing direction on-seating, but can be designed for an off-seating head.
