Relevant Project Experience - Kenneth Grubb Associates Ltd

Brede Sluice
Retained by Halcrow Group Limited to carry out a feasibility and options report on a set of Mitre Gates at Rye Sussex, an outline design and costs were then produced for the preferred option.

Sutton Harbour
Retained by Taylor & Sons to produce manufacturing drawings for two sets of replacement sector gates and to    design temporary works for erection of the gates.  These temporary works included guides and bulkheads to isolate the gate recesses from the lock. Also to design an erection system for placing sill seal faces accurately in position underwater by divers.

Moor Lane Offtake
Retained by Taylor & Sons to design and produce manufacturing drawings for new operating gear at Moor Lane Offtake tilting gate near Staines.  The old hydraulic ram system was replaced by an electric actuator operated rope winch system.

Hull Marina Report & Refurbishment
Retained by British Waterways to carry out an inspection and produce a report on the Hull Marina Sector Gates.  Advised on the extent of refurbishment that was required on the gates.

Cley Mitre Gate Condition Report
Retained by Halcrow Group Limited to carry out a condition report on a set of Mitre Gates and also a Vertical Lift Gate with Flap Valves. Supervised the refurbishment of the Mitre Gate pintels.

Walcot Mitre Gate
Retained by the Taylor & Sons to design and produce manufacturing drawings for a set of Mitre Gates to protect a pumping station and surrounding land from flooding at high water levels.  The gates were designed to BS 5950.

Cley Stoplogs
Retained by the Halcrow Group Limited to design and produce manufacturing drawings for a set of stoplogs to allow maintenance to be carried out on existing Mitre Gates.  The logs were designed to BS 5950.

Relevant Project Experience - GE

Banimboola Power Station, Australia
Produced Operating & Maintenance manuals for Southern Hydro for the Intake Gates, Draft Tube Gates and Trash Cleaning Machine on the Banimboola Power Station. Erection and commissioning documents were also produced for inclusion in the manuals.

Esti HEPP Emergency Wheel Gate
Working for AES Panama designed to DIN 19704 one 6m span x 5.5m high hydraulically operated wheel gate for emergency closure of the intake canal.  The design took into account a horizontal earthquake load of 0.23g based on the USBR formula.  The main functions of the gate were to close the canal if problems arose with the upstream regulator gate, allow maintenance of regulator gate and to be able to crack open 1.5m to allow filling of void between wheel gate and regulator radial gate before opening under balanced conditions.  Produced a conceptual drawing to enable detailed drawings to be made in a low cost country.

Esti HEPP Intake Screens
Designed 2 sets of intake screens 6m span x 5m high and 2 sets 6m span x 9m high. All screens were designed with a 3m differential head to DIN 19704 with bar buckling stress calculated to the USBR manual.  The screens were designed to allow them to be lifted out by mobile crane and manually cleaned.  The function of the screens is to prevent debris passing into the downstream waterway whilst the turbine is operating.  Produced conceptual drawings to enable detail drawings to be made in a low cost country.

Nathpa Jhakri Power Station, India
Produced conceptual and detail drawings on all sections of the project. Assisted in the production of design calculations, Operating & Maintenance manuals and erection procedures.

Ffestiniog
Produced a Preventative Maintenance manual for the Bulkhead and Stoney Roller gates for First Hydro at Ffestiniog power station.  These were written with reference to previous site surveys.

Bayano HEPP Intake Gate
Investigated and designed a 5.6m span x 6m high with 32m head of water Intake Wheel Gate for AES Panama. Din 19704 was used as the design standard. Two units had been commissioned in the 1970's at this station and this gate was for a third unit to work along side them.  The gate was of the same size as the previous two but modern design methods and materials meant a simpler more easily maintained gate design was possible.  A conceptual drawing was produced to allow detailed drawing to be carried out in a low cost country.

Heysham Power Station
Undertook an inspection of seized dogging arrangement on outfall gates at Heysham Nuclear Power Station. Investigated use of different materials to cut down the effects of marine environment and electrolytic action.

Lednock Hydro Station
Designed new Draft Tube gates and Lifting Structure for the existing hydro station at Lednock Scotland.

Relevant Project Experience - Kvaerner Boving

Glasson Dock
Designed two small, hinged gates to connect the new flood defence wall with the extended flap gate at Glasson dock.  This work was carried out in conjunction with the Environment Agency.

Glenmoriston
Surveyed the Intake and Spillway areas of the power station and prepared a bid for the gate refurbishment.

Barking Reach Power Station
Designed electrically operated Wheel gates, Stoplogs and Lifting Beam. Produced detailed drawings and Operating & Maintenance manuals for all items.

Relevant Project Experience - Boving Newton Chambers

Benfleet Flap Gate
Surveyed the Benfleet flood control flap gates and designed a steady roller to prevent the lifting chain jumping the sprocket during operation.
