Radical gates refurbishment at Aigas and Kilmorack

KGAL were retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Ltd to carry out a full Finite Element structural assessment of the Radial Gates at Aigas Dam Power Station in Scotland.

Based on the findings of the assessment, Scottish & Southern Energy decided to award a contract for the refurbishment of the Radial Gates at both Aigas and Kilmorack sites to EESL.

KGAL were further retained by EESL to design the key components that required replacement, including seals and trunnion bearings together with a watertight cofferdam to enable safe and dry working conditions to be established on site.

KGAL were given the brief that the new designs had to be fully compatible with the existing civil structure.

The detailed design of all necessary components was completed and KGAL supplied a full set of manufacturing data to EESL.

The cofferdam was installed and the gates were refurbished by EESL and commissioned during the Summer / Autumn of 2002.
