Automatic tilting weir gates, Bonnington

KGAL were retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Ltd to carry out a full conditional assessment and dedicated mathematical analysis of the Automatic Tilting Weir Gates at Bonnington Power Station in Scotland following operational problems experienced by the client, Scottish Power.

Based on the findings of the assessment and the results of the mathematical modelling, the client decided to award a contract for the refurbishment of the Tilting Weir Gates to EESL.

KGAL were then retained by EESL to refurbish the tilting gates, related ancillary equipment and  design stoplogs to enable dry and safe working conditions to be established on site.

KGAL were given the brief that any new design had to be fully interchangeable with the existing civil structure.

KGAL developed the refurbished gate design to include both an improved sealing system and complete interchangeability with the existing operating gear.

The detailed design was completed and KGAL supplied a full set of manufacturing data to EESL.

The gate components and stoplogs were fabricated at EESL's Aberdeen facility, transported to site, installed and commissioned during the Summer of 2001.
