Enterprise Engineering Services Ltd were awarded a contract by Scottish Power to remove and refurbish the two Bulkhead Gates at Cruachan Dam in Scotland.
Kenneth Grubb Associates Ltd were asked to design a replacement bulkhead gate structure. In addition, the client also required a remote winching system for the watertight access cover, a remote gate sprigging system and a new access walkway for the bulkhead gate storage bay.
KGAL were given the brief that the new designs had to be fully interchangeable with the existing civil structure.
KGAL developed the new designs, analysed the structures, detailed the designs and supplied a full set of manufacturing data to EESL.
The gate was fabricated in four modular sections at EESL's Aberdeen facility, transported to site and installed. Both the walkway and gate spragging system were fabricated, hot-dip galvanized and installed on site. The winching system was procured by EESL based on design work carried out by KGAL and installed on site.
