Dundreggan reservoir stores water for use at the PitLochry Hydroelectric Power Station. After operation for a number of decades one of the radial gates was found to be heavily corroded and beyond its useful life.
In 1999 Enterprise Engineering Services Ltd (EESL) was contracted by Scottish & Southern Energy plc to provide a new gate structure to match with the existing civil works and pivots etc. Kenneth Grubb Associates Ltd (KGAL) was employed to undertake the structural design and demonstrate that modern codes were being met.
KGAL used site survey results to produce detailed workshop drawings and the new gate structures were successfully installed and recommissioned by EESL. The works were carried out in a manner that minimised the power station outage.
