The owners of the recently constructed Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Electric Power Plant, in the Himachal Pradesh region of India, appointed KGAL to conduct a site survey and review of the original design criteria on all the Water Control Gates within the scheme.
SJVN (A joint venture of Government of India & Government of Himachal Pradesh) requested our presence on site to carry out an accompanied inspection of all the gates, over a 2 week period, followed by a desk study and formal report submission by KGAL.
The gate types included:
- Intake Gate
- Tailrace Gate
- Bulkhead Gate
- Radial Spillway Gate
SJVN have experienced difficulties on a number of gates due to adverse site conditions, unexpected siltation of the power station intake tunnels and changes in operating criteria from those envisaged at the initial design and construction stage
