KGAL were retained by Enterprise Engineering Services Ltd to carry out works relating to the Tilting Weir Gates at Stonebyres Power Station in Scotland.
KGAL were initially retained by EESL to carry out a full site assessment of the existing gates including calculations to determine the current condition of the gates.
Further to the results of the assessment, Scottish Power awarded EESL a contract to replace the existing gates. KGAL were then retained by EESL to design the replacement tilting weir gates.
KGAL were given the brief that the new designs had to be fully interchangeable with the existing civil structure.
KGAL developed the new tilting weir gate design to include a sealing system consistent with the existing civil work interfaces and the new hydraulic cylinder being used to operate the gate.
The detailed design was completed and KGAL supplied a full set of manufacturing data to EESL.
The tilting weir gates were fabricated at EESL's Aberdeen facility, dismantled into separate parts, transported to site, installed using a helicopter and commissioned during the Summer of 2003.
