In 2005, as part of the Environment Agency Thames region's ongoing improvement of flood defences, KGAL was appointed by Halcrow, to evaluate the existing flood control structure on the River Beam at Dagenham.

After consideration of the results of the site inspection, KGAL's ongoing work included detailed design of a complete replacement stainless steel sluice gate and associated operating equipment.

In addition KGAL was appointed by J. Breheny Contractors Ltd as designers of the necessary temporary works including a temporary regulating gate complete with operating gear, and upstream and downstream stoplogs.
