Hull Tidal Surge Barrier
Vertical Lift “Turnover” Wheel Gate 30m Span x 10.7m deep x 220 Te
KGAL were appointed by Halcrow, as specialist sub consultants to manage an upgrade of the River Hull Tidal Surge Barrier operating system, on behalf of the Environment Agency.
KGAL’s scope of work included;
- A Condition Assessment of the gate structure and corrosion protection system
- Development of a Technical Specification for Contractors Tender Documents
- Evaluation of Contract Tenders and Contractor selection
- Overseeing the Design Development by the Contractor
- Project Management of the works
- Site supervision of the Installation works over a 2 year period
The gate is designed to provide flood protection to the City of Hull, by excluding storm surge tides from entering the River Hull. After refurbishment of the main gate structure, the complete Operating and Control system was replaced, to provide improved levels of redundancy, including “Black Drop” capability.
KGAL engineers were involved in the original design, manufacture and installation of the gate when it was built in 1980, when employed by the original gate contractor. |
