Daventry Canal Lock Gates and BoatliftKGAL were appointed by Hyder as specialist sub consultant for the design and detailing of lock gate systems on 6 traditional narrow locks on the new Daventry Canal. Each lock comprised a single leaf gate at the upstream end and twin leaves at the downstream end. In addition KGAL were retained to participate in a feasibility study and outline design of an Iconic boat lift as part of an alternative canal proposal, replacing a number of locks over a shorter canal route. Working closely with Hyder’s Structural Engineers, KGAL advised on all aspects of the Mechanical machinery, Hydraulic operating system and Electrical control system. Various options were considered including an inclined plane, before arriving at the preferred option shown above.
