Black Sluice Lock, Boston

The 6m clear span lock comprises a pair of 8m deep Sector Gates at the outer end and a pair of 7m deep Mitre Gates at the inner end.

KGAL were appointed by Halcrow, on behalf of the Environment Agency, to design and detail both sets of lock gates, the associated operating and control systems and maintenance stoplogs. In addition, an existing vertical lift sluice gate was modified to act as an emergency gate for the lock. KGAL also provided technical supervision during installation and commissioning.

The Black Sluice Lock at Boston, Lincolnshire was officially opened on 20th March 2009. The project forms phase 1 of the Fenlands Waterways Link which will eventually link the Cathedral Cities of Lincoln and Ely.
